Policy and Procedures

Accident or Illness:

In cases of accident or illness at school, students will report to the office for assistance. If the injury or illness is serious and requires further attention, the office will notify the parents. Students will be granted permission to leave the building because of illness when the office personnel have notified the parent or guardian.  Student Insurance: The school is not responsible for injuries that may occur at school. There is no insurance to cover medical expenses. It is possible to obtain inexpensive insurance to cover your child during schoolhours. If you are interested in this insurance you may pick up an information packet in the school office

Withdrawal From School:

If it becomes necessary for a student to withdraw from school during the school term, a note should be brought in from either a parent or guardian requesting that a transfer be given. The note should state the reason for withdrawal and destination so the student’s records can be sent properly. Students that are withdrawing will be given a withdrawal sheet from the office to take to their teachers for proper clearance. All fines paid and text/library books must be returned before withdrawal is complete.

Parent Complaint Procedure:

Solving Problems/Concerns, Complaints about Lakes personnel, or programs:  The administration and staff at Lakes Magnet Middle  School are anxious to resolve problems quickly and fairly to all involved. We encourage all parents and students to notify us as soon as possible about any concerns. The first step in dealing with a problem at Lakes would be to discuss the issue with the person directly involved, whether it is a teacher, custodian, cook, or office personnel. If you are unable to resolve the problem at that level contact the administration. We will make every effort to resolve problems as quickly as possible.
If you are still not satisfied, you may appeal a decision to the Director of Secondary Education or the Superintendent of Schools of the Coeur d’Alene School District. A final appeal may be made in writing to the Coeur d’Alene School Board if the problem cannot be resolved at any other level.

Closed Campus Policy:

The district has established closed campuses for each middle school. This means that students may not leave the campus during the school day unless excused as part of a school function or excused by a written pass from the office.   Students arriving or leaving at times other than the normal start up and release times, MUST check in or out through the office.
